Did you ever have an RC car when you were a kid? Children in general tend to love anything that’s remote controlled, so it’s no suprise that most of us had some kind of RC car when we were kids. It might surprise you to know that there’s a whole other world of remote control vehicles beyond the toys you used to play with. The bustling RC car hobby is a great way for adults and kids alike to take remote control to the next level, and one of the most popular way to do that is with RC nitro cars.

Nitro cars are very different from the cars that most people are familiar with. The RC vehicles you’ll find in the toy aisle of a department store are low powered electric types. These cars are great for kids, because they’re cheap, durable, and still pretty fun to play with. At the end of the day, these electric cars are still toys meant for children.

RC nitro cars are not powered by electricity, instead they have a small combustion engine. This engine runs on a special fuel that’s a mix of methanol, nitromethane, and oil. The combustion engine of a nitro car has a lot of advantages over electric engines. It’s more powerful, allowing the car to reach incredible top speeds, and refueling only takes seconds because there’s no battery to charge.

Nitro cars are a real hobby, not just a toy. Owning and running an RC nitro car requires a much greater investment of time than an electric car. Nitro cars are much more complex and require a lot of maintenance and tuning to run correctly, but for most people that’s part of the fun.

If you’re interested in nitro cars the best place to start is with a ready-to-run kit. The price tag might scare you a bit, but realize that you’re buying everything you need to get started in the hobby. You’ll also need a wide open space where you can run your car. Nitro cars are fast, loud, and more difficult to control than electric cars so this is key.

The RC nitro car hobby is all about customizing your cars and keeping them running. If you’re the kind of person that enjoys tinkering with machinery and building things you can have a lot of fun with RC cars. Also, there are nitro car races for those with a competitive streak.

To put it simply, RC nitro cars are everything you loved about RC cars as a kid, upgraded for an adult. That’s not to say they can’t be enjoyed by kids though. They’re a great hobby for anybody interested in building and operating fast, impressive pieces of machinery. There’s nothing quite like the roar of an engine, and RC nitro cars deliver that in a pint sized scale.
